New Pagani Huayra

The 700hp Pagani Huayra is here and already one of the most talked about cars at the Geneva Motor Show 2011. And though we'd seen the pictures and read the stats nothing compares with seeing the thing in the flesh.

Like the Zonda that it replaces, the new Huayra is built entirely from carbon fibre and uses a Mercedes-sourced V12 engine built by AMG especially for Pagani. And, like the Zonda, it raises engineering to the level of art.
The Huayra is a serious step on from the Zonda and packed with some serious technology. More importantly it also opens up America and China to Pagani, the firm on the cusp of moving to a bigger factory in anticipation of this.
The obvious comparisons are with another 700hp supercar launching here at the Geneva Motor Show - the Lamborghini Aventador. But, in all honesty, the £200K Lambo is little league in comparison. No wonder ex-Lamborghini employee Horacio Pagani looks so happy!

What is it?

What is it?

Pagani, who is credited with introducing carbon fibre to Lamborghini when he worked there, says he feels vindicated his former employers have now adopted this technology for the Aventador.

Pagani's stunning sequel to the fabulous Zonda has been five years in the making and raises the supercar bar another notch.
Developed just down the road from the Aventador LP700-4, the comparisons between the new Pagani and the Lamborghini sharing its Geneva debut are too hard to ignore.

And the similarities don't stop there. Both cars use 700hp V12s and automated single-clutch gearboxes and both redefine supercar performance levels but go about it in very different ways.
The Huayra weighs over 200kg less than the Lamborghini for starters, the 1,350kg kerb weight hugely impressive for a car significantly bigger than the Zonda it replaces.

And, unlike the Lamborghini, the V12 engine uses twin turbos meaning the astonishing 737lb ft of torque is available almost instantly - the Lambo's 509lb ft not coming until 5,500rpm.

This turbo torque advantage and the significantly lower weight should make the Huayra feel even more potent than the Lamborghini on the road, though with two-wheel drive against the Aventador's four-wheel drive you'll need to be careful how you deploy it.

WONDERFULL CAR .
